STEM Saturday

STEM Saturday is the monthly program that we offer our current cohort of Future Leaders.

STEM Sat shirt front

January was a great meeting and the girls looked absolutely fabulous in the shirts that they designed!

We spent time sharing about the holidays, putting our academic and personal goals on the goal board, learning how to apply makeup, creating a puff mobile, learning how to weigh our options when making important financial decisions, learning how to be safe with social media and creating a super turbo car that moved with a motor. It was really a great day! The girls also used a new app called “Mentimeter” with electronic devices which allowed them to anonymously share their responses after completing an activity. During our team building exercises, the girls had to work together without talking to line up according to their birthdays. They all felt that talking really matters when trying to communicate with others and they promised to put forth that effort as we work together during our STEM Saturdays.

Warsaw Rehabilitation Center Prep

December STEM Saturday was full of giving!

The girls prepared 60 care packages along with 2 additional boxes of goodies and we took it over to the Warsaw Rehabilitation Center. Each girl also brought in items to prepare a Christmas food basket for a family in need. Through our grant funding, we were able to travel to Goldsboro, have lunch at Chili’s, and go to the Paramount Theatre to see the play “Child of the Promise.” The girls had a $15 budget and each girl stayed within their budget and used the skills we have been practicing to confidently place their orders. It was a wonderful day and each girl genuinely seemed to be thankful for all of the opportunities we provided to them and the opportunities that they provided for others. Paramount Theatre

Advancing Inquisitive Minds, Strong Bodies and Global Communities

AIMSBGC Advancing Inquisitive Minds, Strong Bodies and Global Communities(AIMSBGC)was Cultivating Stalk & Stem’s first summer program We pursued the camp to help assist our community middle school girls in achieving academic, social, and emotional success. We have given students a wonderful gift – the opportunity to experience hands on STEM projects, learn new skills, make meaningful new friendships, and explore financial literacy through the use of budgets. We provided a free one-week summer camp to the girls and are now offering a once a month free STEM Saturday with the plans of providing a two- week summer camp for 2017. Together we were able to foster an environment that empowered them to take charge of their learning, motivate their spirits, embrace the world, and DREAM BIG!!! The girls from the camp became our first cohort for STEM Satuday!
